”…The case of Mr. Lawrence is a lesson for the tens of thousands of university-bound students who will be packing their bags this month and heading off to colleges and universities across North America. Unfortunately, one thing most won’t be packing is a realistic or tightly adhered-to budget and financial plan,” says Sandra Perilli, founder of FolioFLY (www.foliofly.com), an online résumé and portfolio-development tool that helps students gain valuable working experience.

“As students prepare for their transition between high school and college, many will surprisingly leave without even a basic understanding of real money management and the lifelong importance of maintaining a strong credit history through graduation,” says Ms. Perilli.”     Read more: http://www.nationalpost.com/story.html?id=1939983#ixzz0kvxNTHdY

“…As the current state of American education continues to evolve and grow, today’s teachers, professors and students face more challenges than ever before. Twenty-first century students are tech-savvy, sophisticated, and willing to embrace advanced learning opportunities. Others are ambitiously seeking interesting business experiences and rewarding internship opportunities – even years before high school or college graduation.

While government and industry experts are presently exploring options to enhance elements of the education system to meet the competitive demands of the global market, Stevens Institute of Technology Alumna and education entrepreneur, Sandra Perilli (class of 2003) is implementing her own alternative solution - with impressive results.”

SEED_Award-PerilliLocal businesswoman, Sandy Perilli of Cherry Hill, was awarded 1st place   statewide honors in the NJAWBO Women’s Business Center S.E.E.D. Grant competition for her business FolioFLY ( formerly Switch Hunt LLC) which provides an online venue for educators to exhibit and promote exceptional student works such as creations of logos, illustrations, and website templates,
etc., and a proprietary service that invites businesses to submit business challenges into a database for educators to select from and integrate into daily lessons.

The competitive grant program is funded by the New Jersey Department of   Community Affairs and targets women desiring to open new small businesses in the state. Participants attended a series of classes and seminars offered throughout the state, wrote their business plan, and the six finalists orally presented the plan to the Judging Committee – Cathyann Frank,  Senior Vice President, TDBanknorth and Diana Kyser, Managing Partner, ExceedGlobal, Inc. and Adjunct Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University.  Awards included cash, incubator space, professional services and membership in NJAWBO.

The Women’s Business Center is partially funded by the U.S. Small business  Administration’s Office of Women’s Business Ownership and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, as well as other corporate sponsors.  Center Director Penni Nafus adds, “The main goal of this project was to provide the tools for women to become self-sufficient by owning and successfully operating their own businesses, thereby investing financially, intellectually and emotionally in their community.”
